I was reading the BBC web site today and they had two interesting things. The first was the starwars III trailer release, which looks nice, hope the film makes a good completion of the first set of the saga. It is called revenge of the seth. I have always been a fan of starwars, although I was not that satisfied with the last two, but you have to look at it as a whole set of films, which have had their mark on film history.
The second article was more interesting. It seems that as people get heavier, the design, fuel, and even load calculations for airplanes is changing. You might wonder, what does that mean? Well, they have seen a drastic increase in people's weights over the last two decades and of course that would affect the load that a plane can take. When a plane is designed, it is designed for a set weight, which includes equipment, chairs, cargo, people and of course fuel. Most of the time, these planes last 30 plus years in service. Therefore, if people become heavier with time, then either planes have to take less passengers, to maintain the overall weight balance, or have to redesign their planes. Also, sometimes they have to charge people for two chairs because their ass does not fit in one chair. So its a cost-cost thing, no matter how you look at it.
Hence, the next time you decide to take a plane, make sure you lose a few pounds. Also, if you are one of those frequent flyers, do not be surprised, if a weight limitation is required for future flights. The message is clear, planes are on their way to become not only smoke-free, but also fat-free.
