Tonight, I joined Q in another escapade to review one of the restaurants in Kuwait. I decided to take my brother with me to get more people involved in the eating experience. Q first wanted to postpone the dinner from 20.30 to 21.00 because he wanted to watch the match. We wanted to do it earlier, and we decided to go at 20.00. In retrospect, that was a good decision for two reasons. First, if we had waited for the game to finish, it would have been late to get there, and two, they had a section with a big screen TV and sheesha, go figure in a Greek place!!Zorba is located on the sea, just under el-dana restaurant. It is the only Greek place in Kuwait as far as I know. The last time I went there was five years ago, and it was more quiet, but it was a weekday. At the entrance, you get some Greek feelings from the paintings and you also see a board indicating that they have plate breaking night on Tuesday. For those familiar with Greek tradition, they usually dance and break plates when they are happy, hence, if you are stressed and want to join the action, go on a Tuesday night.
We sat in the section for sheesha, which was surprising as I said, because Q wanted to watch the match, and we of course would want to too. Its a mixed sheesha place too, for those interested in knowing that.
We decided to select from the menu instead of the buffet. The menu contained traditional Greek dishes, and also sambosa (yes Maryam warned me about that). We choose to start with doluma, grilled 7aloom, chicken liver wrapped in filo pastry and some eggplant parmasean. The guy said they did not have doluma because it was out of season, but they had waraq 3enab! Ok, I know they are not the same, but what can be out of season in Kuwait! lamb or the leaves!!
While waiting for the order, we saw this small Santa character, walking around with a bag and bell. I have not seen a skinny Santa before, but maybe this is the Greek version. Odd sight :). The appetizers were good, especially the 7aloom and the eggplant dish.
For main course, each ordered a different dish, so I will review my dish, which was two pieces of steak done medium well, with some vegetables. I asked for a medium dish, but in Kuwait, medium does not exist. The steak was done correctly as I asked, spiced nicely. The vegetables were normal potato, carrot, squash, and cauliflower, so nothing unique.
I did not have dessert, had sheesha instead with mint tea.
The price for everything was cheap I have to say, and would be reasonable for the food we ordered.
So, if you remember from last time, I have a special rating system, so:
Restaurant design: 7
Parking: 7
Staff: 7
Seating arrangement: 6
Ambiance: 6
Bathroom: NA (meaning did not go, ask Q he went)
Appetizers: 7
Food (steak): 7
Dessert: NA (did not have any, Q did)
Price: 9
Total: 7/10, which means it gets a Me likey rating (7-7.9), but just borderline on average . Note that this is out of 80 not a 100 for the missing parts.
Q will be posting soon, so let's see what he has to say.
