Today I watched a Korean Movie called Old Boy (2003). It came up during a conversation last Tuesday and it seemed like a good movie, so I searched and found it. Then I remembered that Mark posted about it before (those were days when I was torrent ignorant).

It is a powerful movie, with lots of blood, action and for the faint hearted, not recommended. However, for those interested in a movie that is well done, good story and amazing action, then this movie is for you.

Now some of you might say, but Purgatory, we do not understand Korean, how can we watch? Of course, many torrents already come with movie including subtitles, but some do not. For example this one, I found a good copy to watch, but the subtitle file did not work. So for those interested in watching foreign movie, here are steps on how to watch with subtitles. I will use this movie as an example.

1) find the movie torrent and download it. Try to seek dvdrips of course or for alternative versions, see user comments. Click on this link

2) If it does not contain subtitle file (file ending in .srt), go to Opensubtitles.org. This site contains practically many versions for many films. In the search window, type the name of the movie, in this case Old Boy. Search will show you the data avialable. Once you find the file, click download and save it. You might need to extract it if it is zipped.

What is also nice about this site is that it has external links for movie review and also torrents, even though I like to do my torrent search the old fashioned way.

3) Save the torrent file and the subtitle file in same directory. Name both files with the same name, for example old boy.avi and old boy.srt.

4) After downloading, use VLC media player. If you do not have it, download it, it opens almost all media files. You can download it by clicking on this link or alternative download sites. Its a free player.

5) Open VLC media player, go to FILE, OPEN FILE



6) Choose the file by clicking browse and finding the file. Then check the box marked use subtitles, browse and find it.



7) Click Ok and the movie should play with subtitles. Just for info, subtitles might be a bit broken or maybe sometimes depending on movie, not exactly good english, but you can always search for alternative subtitle sites, there are plenty.
