I just got home from a short trip and took Swiss Airlines for the first time since a long time and managed to get into the First Class section. Now you will expect me to describe my experience and how lavish it was but that is not what I want to talk about.
While I was going through their magazine and resting my legs on the ottoman, the flight attendants were going through the regular procedures on safety, which was in three languages, German(Swiss), French(Swiss) and Italian(Swiss). Now for those who have lived there, they will realize that the Swiss version of these languages is not exactly the same as that of the native countries, but close enough to communicate between the two. Now you will expect me to discuss how interesting that someone learns all three languages and expects to know all three to a certain level for communication in one counrty, but that is not what I want to talk about.
While checking the duty free items, I began to think, the Swiss are confused! Yes confused with a big C. When you are a bit German, a bit French and a bit Italian but overall Swiss, that makes for a complex human being, more of a freaky amalgam of people in one body. Your mind will think in three seperate directions and as you grow up you will be subjected to multiple complex thinking patterns that will make you seem complex to the outside world. Now this confused person, meets another confused person and they have more confused kids and so on, which leads to a nation full of confused people, no wonder they are neutral and cannot take a decision!
Let me expand this model further. We all know of interracial, inter-continental, inter-faith and other inter -unions, and we know they have their advantages and disadvantages. Now you will expect me to discuss that and go into details about how those people can be confused, but that is not what I want to talk about.
The main thought that went through my head while these other thoughts were going on in other parts of Purgatory was this:
If someone in Salmiya, marries someone in Bayan and they live in Al-Ahmadi, what kind of kids would they have? If someone from Mishref, marries someone from Mishref, and lives in Mishref, what kind of kids would they have?
Confused? good.
