1. Vernon Hills, October 1, 2006 banned in all public places, except parks and outdoor dining areas at least 15 feet (4.6 m) from entrances, meaning you have to walk a long distance and if you work in the city, the chance of you finding such a place is remote, and who cares where Vermon Hill is.
2. Bloomington, January 1, 2005 banned in public buildings including outdoor dining areas. Smoking is allowed only outside at a "reasonable distance" from doors, vents, and windows - measured by whether smoke can drift inside. Also banned in bars and private clubs as of 2005. At least they have a reasonable approach, which is left to different opnions, you can tell good lawyers worked on this.
3. Ames Banned smoking in most public places other than bars, bowling alleys, truck stops, and restaurants (after 8:30 p.m.). OK so we can smoke as much as we want before that time.
4. Manhattan, Kansas, October 2006, banned in restaurants between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Bars are exempt, and smoking is permitted in restaurants after 9 o'clock. Also reasonable.
Ok I did not go through the rest of it, but you can if you want. In the Aljazeera it was mentioned that in some place you cannot rent a place if you smoke and in some cases even if you lived there all your life, they will pass a new rule saying that if you smoke, you are not allowed to live there.
