Mom Stole the Grocery

Ring Ring
ThePurg: Hello
Mom: Hello, this is your mom, I am in grocery (note she never goes there), do you want some Pringles?
ThePurg: No thanks.

One hour later, maid comes in, with bags and bags of grocery, and gives me Pringles

ThePurg: Huh! What is this?
Maid: Your mom said you want it
ThePurg: No! I said I do not want anything!

ThePurg goes to kitchen and sees 2 dozens of Banana!!!

ThePurg: What is all this!
Maid: I do not know, your mom got it!
ThePurg: This much!! who will eat all of this!!
Maid: You should have seen her face when they said it all cost 94 KD
ThePurg: WHAT!!WHAT!!! SHE WAS ONLY SUPPOSED TO GET SOME STUFF!!

Side note: Dad is the one who does grocery, he is out of town.

Ring Ring

ThePurg: Hello, what is all this grocery? did you leave anything?
Mom: (laughing), maid wrote it (3ayara)
ThePurg: Maid would write all this! Why so much bananas! How much did it all cost
Mom : 30 KD! (liar)
ThePurg: You kidding me?
Mom: (laughing)

Ok, not that other people in this house are much better, all of them do not know how to control their money, but 94 freaking KDs for just some stuff before my father comes back is just insane! I am not talking about high prices, but buying stuff like they cost 2 KD is stupid!

Lucky for me, I am a cheap-ass (frugal) person.

aiwaaaa, mnee7 3ereft 7alak LOL! well, my mom is like that "some stuff" would get up around KD 100 including the freaking bananas that go rotten cuz no one eats'em

Your mom and I have a lot in common when it comes to grocery stores... SIGH.

I do not know how to make it stop either. It's like my grocery addiction has a life of it's own....

I do it all the time, go in for bread or milk come out with a 100kd worth of stuff. Its an inherited trait like packrat genes, its look for 1 thing buy 100 gene. Its usually a female inherited trait but my brother got it too, lucky that you didn’t inherit it from your mom :0)

Purg, you have no idea! Your mom is laughing because the prices in the stores are so ridiculous! 94 KD is what 30 KD would buy a year ago. And she had fun. You should go see for yourself - except that it might be hard on your "frugal" heart!

purg, looks like you've not been grocery shopping in a long time. want to know how much my grocery cost? I go 2-3 times a month and I'm only shopping for 3 persons (me + hubby + housemaid) & 1 kid. I buy only necessary items too and I pay about 50-60kd hatheee mithal mayegooloon techyeelah. (ps. meat + chicken + fish not included!) If I go to sultan centre for some specific things I don't usually find at the co-ops, it would cost me 30 kd. So 90 kd is good.

Many are saying that as prices are higher than before for the same items, that there is nothing one can do to control things but spend more for the same.

However, When such things happens, one can

1) reduce expenses by reducing the quantity and quality of goods bought.

2) make sure you do your home work and find where the best bargins are and know when to buy.

3) budget, budget, and budget ;p

Those are good rules, Purg. Some things you can buy a lower brand, but sometimes, when the taste is going to matter, you have to buy the one with the best taste.

Inltxpatr, I disagree, the main objective is to buy groceries with a set amount of money, not to have the same standards. Desperate times require desperate measures, and who cares if that chubby kid ate meat, feed him cereal instead :P
