I was standing waiting for my elevator to come, and I noticed that the elevators have two triangles, one up and one down. Of course its not the first time I notice that, but I started to think, why a triangle, and how do we understand which triangle is for going up or down? I mean if we use squares, we might not figure it out, unless one of them flashes, and using circles, or other shapes would only be valid with a flash or a sound or some sort of signal, but triangles, they are obvious, but are they?
Just because one tip points towards a certain direction, does not imply that the elevator direction would be up or down. Its a triangle, so it can be rotated 360 degrees. Some might say, aha the base is the direction, because they see things with a full perspective, meaning, as the base is bigger and flat, they would think " aha, I am going up, so am going to a flat surface, so the upside down triangle is going up" and a vice versa thought for going down. But what happens if you are going up a pyramid shaped building? Then it makes more sense to have the tip pointing up, because you are going to the tip.
This illogical logic can be confusing if the building is rectangular or circular, or even cubical, because that would involve several calculations and logical sequences to arrive at the same conculsion.
Based on what I have discussed, I think buildings should be shaped more like pyramids (hmm, triangles and cones ;))
