I finished watching Doomsday this afternoon starring Rhona Mitra, Bob Hoskins and Malcolm McDowell, and the movie is a simple action movie, with lots of homage parts to the Mad Max series. After watching the movie, I wanted to get my big LD of Mad Max out and watch it, but I need to find a machine first, which is somewhere in the house. However, something else came to my mind when I went to wash my face, which is about female action heroes.

In the past, most action movies were based on male characters, such as Rambo, Blade Runner, Riddek, Mad Max of course, and many more. But in the last decade or so, we have seen more female action heroes. Most famous are Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft, Kate Beckinsale in the Underworld, Milla Jovovich in Resident Evil and of course the first one Sigourney Weaver in Aliens.

Why are we having action movies with female leads? Is it a male fantasy to have a nice tall skinny butch gurl beating people up or is it the thought of a lesbian community hell bent on showing the world that gurls can do it too?

If you wanted to create your own action hero, male or female, what would you call him/her and what would be their mission? Note its action hero, not super hero.
