I was browsing the net looking for something when I found this from the U.S. Embassy website

Just your list of places to go and stuff, very helpful I would say but I noticed a few things (I always do).
1. EDO: Authentic Japanese Cuisine in a modern, sleek interior. The restaurant menu has a wide selection of dishes. The take out menu is more limited. The food is excellent and light tasting. Credit Cards okay, just not American Express - I never knew that.
2. MAKI : Quite good here. Pricey as any Japanese restaurant is, compared to other cuisines. Small but charming place. Has a flat screen TV to keep you occupied while they are preparing your orders.
- I am not sure if that was intended to be funny, but it made me laugh.
3. ISABEL’S CAFETERIA: Not a restaurant, but a caterer. Offers homemade Mexican food by the plate or as large dishes for parties. Very tasty! Call one day ahead for plates and two days in advance for large dishes - Someone (hint hint) did not tell me about this!
4. LANDMARK: Kuwait’s version of a Target - Oprah's favorite store.
5. Arifjan PX: (...) It’s the only place to buy (....) and vanilla extract - Is Vanilla extract code for something?
6. FRUIT AND VEGETABLE MARKETS: Also called “Chappras” - Reminds of replacement Latina version of Copper Island.
7. ENTERTAINMENT FOR ADULTS - umm?
8. FORMAL DINNER DANCES: The Marine Corps Birthday Ball in the Fall, and the Military Ball in the Spring will give you a chance to dress up. Other organizations also have dances, though they might not be formal - interesting.
9. AEWA BARBERSHOP: Hair cutting for men available Mondays on the Embassy compound. Sign up for an appointment at the AEWA gift shop - Would they give a normal civilian like me one? do I need a visa?
10. JEAN ESCALANTE: Home service provided – highly recommended by some Embassy personnel - umm?
11. MAGICIAN: Prof. Gugampoo. Magician, illusionist, and ventriloquist. www.gugampoo.com. - interesting.
12. RELIGIOUS SERVICES - going down the list, no synagogue?
However, the list is comprehensive and good for those who like to do stuff, unlike lazy me.

i do that everywhere i go.. get the list from the embassies, some lists even tell you the preferred tym to go, to avoid crowded places and stuff.
Some unexpected entries there...

You have to have a military ID card to shop at Arifjan.
Vanilla extract (and almond extract, lemon extract, peppermint extract, etc) all contain alcohol, and when we try to ship them to Kuwait, they are removed from our shipments.
