In 2005, I read my first book written by George Cockcroft, who writes under the name Luke Rhinehart, and the book was The Dice Man, one of the classics of literature. After that I read the follow-up, In Search of the Dice Man.Recently, among the books I got, was Whim, which was re-published in 2002.



It is an edited version, or an extended version, of the Adventures of Whim, which was published earlier but was not available again until 2002. It talks about Whim, the son of Lord Chance, who is sent down to Earth to be with humans. The book is about 400 pages, but you can finish it quick, I did.

The story starts fine, until somewhere midway, then it gets into quicksand mode, where the story is stuck without much movement or major events, yet you want to finish it. Also, depending on the version you get, it might have spelling mistakes, typos, or even time or character confusion. One Character who had black hair, somehow became blond, and you think the story is in the 1970s, then you find out its in the 1980s, or 1990s, you are not quite sure. I was disappointed by the ending.

Overall worth a read, but I would recommend you read The Dice Man first, if you never read that.
