The other day I was watching the Wile Blue Yonder, a movie by Werner Herzog, which is a mockumentary about aliens and space, but using real examples about space. One of the most interesting segments was about the Interplanetary Superhighway, or IPS.
If you look online you will find many sources on this subject. One of the leading experts on this subject is Martin Lo , who appears in the movie. In summary the theory redefines the way we look at orbits around planets. Unlike the typical circular orbits around each plants having their own space and not really intersecting, the IPS is an intrict set of routes or tubes between all planets as shown in the artist illustration.
This theory has been used in practice in the Genesis Project in early 2000, which mission was to collect solar wind samples and you can find more on the IPS and space from the following two example links.
Despite the technical difficulties in understanding the whole thing, I see it as an interesting turning point in space travel, and maybe also time travel.
I was talking to someone yesterday and she mentioned she would like to trade back a year of her life to go back in time and change things. For example, we are now in 2006, lets say you gave someone else a year of your life in exchange for going back in time to a certain moment to change things (see diagram).
While this idea might seem good, I see many problems.
1) If you go back in time and change things, there is a possibility that you can extend your life or die younger. A small change can lead to bigger changes.
2) If the Red Person gets a year from the Yellow Person, Can he/she use it to trade for more time from someone else? What would be the limit for time trading?
3) The possibility of too much trading leading to ending up with immediate death, or banishment into the stone ages.
4) Crossing paths and maybe a clash and death of both Red and Yellow Person. Hmmm, Jump! Jump!
I am too sleepy to think of more, but you get the idea, so what is your opinion?
However, this time it was minor, but again, what if they were playing in the series now aganist Oakland, would this have happened? Should we expect more to happen to the Yankees? Stay tuned.
