US Airways to charge $2 for soda, juice, water

"Better get used to carrying lots of singles next time you fly. US Airways is now terminating free drink service. No, not free mini bottles of Jim Beam and cheap Chardonnay, we're talking about all drinks, including soda, fruit juice, coffee, and bottled water, which will soon cost $2 each. Presumably tap water, which may or may not be contaminated with fecal coliform bacteria, will still be free.

The move is the latest way airlines are attempting to fight rapidly rising fuel prices in a disastrous economic climate. In recent months, the extra fees have come fast and furious. First came extra charges for your second piece of luggage, then came a charge for your first bag. That's not to mention extra fees for choosing your own seat, curbside check-in, booking using frequent flier miles, and the cost of the Santa Fe chicken sandwich.

The beverage fee is even more annoying than most, since you can no longer bring liquids through security at airports. You are really at the mercy of buying them on the plane, or at least buying them once you're in the terminal (which is doubtlessly no cheaper than on the plane). Alcoholic drinks will also go from $5 to $7. That's a lot for a can of Budweiser.

The fee goes into effect August 18, leaving plenty of time for the airlines to come up with other fees to nickel and dime their way to profitability. Can pay toilets be far behind?"

I managed to finish the 290 pages of this book over five days and this was the second book I have read for the same author. Women talks about the author experiences with women during a set period of time, but he uses aliases in his book instead of real names of the ladies. This novel shows an older bukowski, and is unlike Post Office, which was more vibrant.

The first 120 plus pages of the book are very good, especially parts where Lydia is mentioned, the ultimate psychotic lover from Hell. I am lucky that I have not met anyone like her before, nor do I wish anyone to meet anyone like her. Her character was based on Linda King, an american poet and sculptor, who was his girlfriend in the early 70s. She is my favorite character in the book though, and you feel her presence missing as the latter parts of the book talk more about other women, and as it almost ends, it basically just talks about him having sex, drinking and meeting women.

This book is more self-centered, and I did not enjoy it like the previous one, however it was still an interesting read about his exploits and it does has many funny lines and parts. I would recommend reading it to get the full perspective of his triology.

This is one of the most bizzare things I have read in some time, and they say girls are not crazy! Women! Women! Damn You women!

"Officials in the US state of Massachusetts are investigating how 17 teenage girls from the same school have become pregnant. The number is four times as high as the year before at Gloucester High School. There are reports that some of the girls - none of whom is older than 16 - entered into a pact to have their babies together.

The girls and their families have so far made no comment. Officials are also investigating the ages of the fathers. Some are believed to be in their twenties and could face the possibility of being charged with having sex with minors. When students at Gloucester High School broke up for the summer, officials, parents and the whole community had to face up to a shocking statistic. Seventeen teenage pupils had walked out of the school gates pregnant. More disturbing is that some of the school's own staff believe that this was no accident.

Local officials say that nearly half of the girls had entered into a bizarre pact to have their babies together. The school principal says that several students returned multiple times to take pregnancy tests and some appeared upset when they found out they were not pregnant. The school - which has 1,200 students - carried out 150 pregnancy tests in the past year alone. "

Since I am getting extra time these days to read, I decided to catch up on my books from the last few months, and started with Post office, a book recommended by Nibaq. I had seen the movie Factotum a while back and it was a somber experience, yet enjoyable, however, after reading the book, I fell in love with Bukowski.



The book in short talks about his time at the post office during a decade or so and the experiences he goes through, the people he works with, the women he meets, his life; being drunk, getting laid and not giving a damn about anything. His encounters with the system at the Post Office are very funny and he reminds me a bit of HST but without the drugs.

The book is divided into four chapters, his start at post office, his time with Joyce, his return back to the city and then chapter four. I finished it quickly in one day, in a few hours, last time I did that was with the Alchemist, but then again both of them are relatively small books. I highly recommend it.
