On Sunday September 19th 2010 the Guardian reported the Football Association's director of football development Sir Trevor Brooking has revealed that England's hiring of a coach to work alongside team manager Fabio Capello is coming soon but gave no date. It will not come, Brooking said, before England's third Euro 2012 qualifier at Wembley vs. Montenegro on 12 October.

The soon-to-be 62-year-old Brooking has said that the coach will be an Englishman but will not be Stuart Pierce, who in any case works now with the senior squad while running the U-21's; further the new man will not necessarily take over from Capello when he leaves.

Brooking Says FA to Add Coach

The veteran football man, who excelled for West Ham in his playing days and was capped 47 times, did not rule out that the new coach could be someone to be considered for the post when Capello takes his leave in 2012. Indeed Brooking has also said that the next manager once Capello has stepped down may not be English, though that is the preference.
